APA Style

Using information ethically requires not only summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting, but also giving credit to the original sources and authors for their ideas. In order to do this in a uniform way, the American Psychological Association (APA) has developed a set of style guidelines that can help you format your paper and use sources ethically. The Massasoit Writing Center has developed a handout to help you cite sources in APA Links to an external site., but we think these videos will also help you with in-text citations and formatting your paper in APA style.

In-Text Citations

In-text citations help you give credit to the sources where you found information. This helps you prevent plagiarism in your paper, and helps your readers figure out where information comes from. The first video gives you a brief introduction to creating the in-text citations you'll need to use after you quote, paraphrase, or summarize information.

APA style is complicated. If you prefer to learn by reading, consider visiting the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL). Links to an external site. Or, if you prefer having a tutor look over your work to give you feedback on how well you've used APA style, make an appointment to visit the Writing Center. Links to an external site.
