Overview
The Assignments tool allows you to track all of the assignments in your course. An assignment includes any activity for which you are going to give a grade to your students. Regardless of where you create an item in Canvas, if it is going to get graded, you will be able to see it in Assignments.
The Assignments tool allows you to organize assignments by type or by group. When you create an assignment, you will need to declare what kind of an activity the assignment is (e.g. quiz, discussion, essay, etc.). You can also give the assignment a due date. When you create a due date for an assignment, that date is automatically reflected in the Calendar. A new column is also automatically generated in the Grade Book for every assignment you create.
You can also set up your Grading Scheme in Assignments. You can group assignments by type (e.g. homework, lab, quiz, exam, project) and then have each group account for a certain weight of the final grade.
You can also add grading rules, like dropping the highest or lowest score. When you edit the grading rules, the Grade Book is automatically updated so that students can see exactly where they stand in the course.
